The word "triangle" represents a triangle. Yet i am not equivalent to a triangle. I have just proved you wrong -- i represented a triangle yet i am not equivalent to a triangle,

I disagree. Consider the President. He "represents" the entire United States, but he certainly isn't equivalent to the whole country.

I believe you can not represent someone or someting that has had experiences which you cannot relate to in your own life. I cannot relate the the president. I can relate to high school students. I can't relate to a rectangle. I can relate to a tree (in metaphorical terms)
