Hi
I had a question to ask you as i read your a wheel alignment expert. 4 days ago my car skid and i went over the curb but was lucky enough to straighten my wheels and go straight into it. I probly went into it at 40km/h becuz my whole car went into the island. my car is a 2001 nissan maxima se 20th anniversary which has a stiffer suspension. The road and the curb were at an incline; the road being a little higher than the curb. I was wondering what sort of damage could it have caused my car and how i can point that out? i noticed my right front steel rim got a dent in it. My alignment doesnt seem to be off, i think its very little off but that may be becuz of the rim since it hit the weight part. Btw, i have toyo winter tires on 16". Is my suspension gone? or the struts? ive been noticing for since i bought the car a month ago that when i go over bumps it makes a cruk sound, it might be normal becuz my dads van makes it too, is it normal? thers no vibration just the sound. plz if u could help me figure out if thers anything that might need attention. Also, how do i kno where tie rods are, what they look like? Its my first car and im very cautious about it, i hope you understand.
Thanks a lot!
bye

Major damage there, even if it doesn't show to your untrained eye. All 4 tyres and wheels for sure -- they will need to be replaced. Bent subframe and lower control arms highly likely. Possible strut damage as well as swaybar and steering linkage -- tie rods, drag link & pitman arm or steering rack, steering knuckles, ball joints, the list goes on. Ditto for the rear suspension bits as well.

It needs to be evaluated by a suspension expert. That "crunk" sound is indicative of suspension damage; it is NOT normal!

i am a ase certified mechanic. hitting a curb at that speed is bad. you should not try to do what i am about to explain.the clunk you car makes might be the strut mount. that is a rubber mount that is between in body of the car and the strut itself. (at the top of the wheel well) to change that mount you MUST have a spring compresser. this spring is under 800 to 1000 lbs of tension it will take your head off or hand what over DONT try this at home. take your car to an alignment shop and have your suspension checked out. e mail me any questions after they have told you what is wrong. this is not a job for a back yard mechanic sorry...

reckoning on how briskly you have been going once you hit the decrease, some quite some issues could have got here approximately: a million) You knock your alignment out and you will could take it to a tire save to get it fixed 2) You lose a weight in the approach and throw of the wheel stability. returned, a tire save can make certain in the event that they is the case 3) You bent your rim. if it quite is the case, you are going to be certain you tell the mechanic to tell you in the event that they stumble on a "wobble" on the balancing device. in case you have alloy wheel, you may oftentimes stumble on a place to straighten out an inclination rim plus refinishing. the cost is usually $one hundred fifty to $2 hundred according to wheel. figuring out to purchase a sparkling wheel won't value too plenty extra in case you look on Ebay, so the alternative is yours. 4) maybe you harm the tire, oftentimes the edge wall. returned, a good tire keep could be your first end. If the wheel nevertheless carry air and you will't stay without your motor vehicle, rotate the wheel to the rear quickly. you will get much less vibration. it quite is precisely short-term, and you will get the wheel appeared at as quickly as obtainable. Your existence worth extra desirable than the cost of adjusting the wheel. sturdy success.
