They are primarily for serving as deterrents. In responsible hands the chances of their use are minimal. However nobody can guarantee what a crazy dictator is going to do with those.

What the public knows is generally 10 years behind what the top government and military officials know. There are most likely other weapons today beyond what we currently consider as mass destruction weapons- like lasers that target certain areas of the atmosphere causing a heat wave effect in specific targeted areas. In other words, if some idiot were to use nuclear weapons, I am willing to bet that there are far more advanced technological weapons and defence systems, that the public does not know about, that would reduce the devastation that we would expect to occur based on our lack of knowledge of the hidden secrets that we do not know about. For example, area 51!

They have been used, but I guess you mean on a grander scale. History and human behavior both heavily suggest that they will.

There has never been weapon invented that was not used.
Guillotine and Gatling both thought that their inventions would be so horrible that they would end mankind’s thirst for blood. Both, of course, could not have been more wrong.

Dude, WMDs have already been used. Hirsohima, Nagasaki, Sadaams gassing of the Kurds, Sarin gas in the Tokyo subway, etc. WMDs include nuclear, biological, and chemical agents. They are out there, and will be used again.

They have been used, twice already. It only takes one joker to use them a third time. And no one is arguing that our world leaders are sane . . . considering the masses of idiots who vote in idiots as presidents of their countries. There is a rule of threes, so they will be used a third time.

Some have been used. I'm sure at some point, others will be used. Every weapon that has ever been invented has eventually been used.

I hoped they're used only as deterrent. Like saying that I have it and you have it, so I won't use it if you won't use it.
