Politely telling them hey your putting my child's life on the line, think we could go someplace that I won't be bothered by the smoke?

Its either that or do exactly what you are doing. All you have to do is speak up, I can assure you, that 99% of the time in situations like this, us smokers aren't offended in fact we are more than happy to oblige!

The best way to avoid the passive smoking is to skip all the situations and the circumstances where smoking is done by the smokers.

Your friends should be considerate of you and your unborn child and not smoke around you. That means not even in the car with the window down, not even in the bathroom with the window open.

If they can't make the important change for you, find new friends. I guess you live in the UK since you're calling it "passive smoke" and it doesn't sound like the US where people really can't smoke anywhere anymore.

Been there, done that, doing that. I have had to completely seperate myself from smokers. To a certain extent I have had to physically seperate myself from my older daughters because they smoke. It has caused some problems with the dynamics of our relationships and that is difficult. I had to make the choice to do the best thing for my unborn child who doesn't have a choice.

Just tell them that you dont wish to be arounf the second hand smoke (proven to be worse than 1st hand) If they ask you why just tell them that smoking is bad for the baby & second hand smoke is worse, if they have a problem with that, you need to reconsider who your friends are.

Just get the word out that you're expecting a child and would appreciate it if people would refrain from smoking while around you. I'm sure they would oblige.

if your friends are your feinds then they should respect your wishs and not smoke around you.
I would at least tell them as being honest with somebody is the best policy.i am a smoker and their is no way i would smoke around someone pregnant, it is disrespectfull and us as human beings no what is right and what is wrong.

just do what u are doing, put up your boundaries and do what u believe is right regardless of other peolpe's reactions. just be frank about why u are turning down invites. i would imagine they could take it outside. i smoke, and i would not smoke around some one if they verbalised their needs. be strong and best of baby luck!!

Keep avoiding them. Smoke is VERY bad for a baby, especially in utero. You are not being rude - THEY are being rude - you are being SMART!
