Right click on My Computer, select the remote tab and turn off remote desktop and assistant. Also check your list of installed programs by click on Control Panel in start and then on add/remove program. Once you are there check for anything recently installed that you don't remember installing. VNC is a popular remote desktop application so you should look out for that. Use spy ware and anti-virus scans to make sure the person that borrowed your laptop didn't install any key loggers (and application that can monitor you key strokes.

Just go into Remote Desktop Connections and click edit settings. Uncheck the box that say "Make Other Users Able TO Connect TO This Computer Remotely"

If you go to your control panel, click on system, and then click ont eh remote tab. see if the Remote desktop is checked. Uncheck if it is. Also change your password for your user, you can click on users accounts in control panel.
Make sure you don't have gotomycomputer installed on your computer by going to add/remove programs and take a look if it's on there.

Thank you for being very thorough in your question. Yes, it would be possible for them to acquire your IP address, and enable a backdoor to get in, but you can make sure it is disabled in the control panel. Go to "System", then click on the "remote" tab. uncheck the boxes, and click ok.
As long as you have secured your wireless network, your "someone" will have a hard time breaking in.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.getpchealthboost.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

go to your ports under your windows firewalls in control panel and look for the tab called exceptions and you should be able to untick remote desktop ports and remote assistance.
