hmmm

i' have to say the following are the major processes:

Wind erosion. particles of rock and dirt wind blown against a surface simply "sandpaper" the softer material away from the harder material.

Water erosion. same as wind erosion. small particles suspended in the water abrade away the material.

Ice expansion. water which penetrates rocks, freezes and expands, causing the rock to split. this goes on till you have nothing small enough to absorb the water.

Heat and cold expansion and contraction. a little different then the ice method above. rock that has been heated during the day, expands. a sharp fall in temperature, such as night, causes the rocks to cool quickly and contract. this sets up a stress where the rocks or materials splits.

dissolves by interaction with water. where the material chemically reacts with water, breaks down, and dissolves into it. mineral water anyone?
