What's it like? Will we be naked? Do we need houses?...or beds? Will there be food? Why would we need any of this stuff? Does it rain in heaven? Is there snow? What games are there to do there? Can I go fishing?...or is that bad to harm fish in heaven? Will I have my eyebrows?...cuz I like my eyebrows. Is there dancing? Education? If I wanted to, could I swim in a lake full of lava?...that would just be cool! As funny as some (okay, most) of what I said here is...and believe me, I could go on and on..., I am curious to know peoples' thoughts on this. Thanks.

If you want to see Heaven (or at least one artist's version of it) rent "What Dreams May Come" starring Robin Williams. An awesome movie! I'm an artist so I really loved their interpretation. Their vision of Heaven is amazing. They show Hell too. Basically they present the idea that heaven & hell is different for everyone. It's whatever you envision it to be. It's a personal experience. Like a dream that doesn't end. So Heaven is like the best dream you ever had & Hell is the worst nightmare & you just don't wake up from it.

It's all spiritual/mental. Not physical. You don't need actual food or beds etc. But if your idea of Heaven is ice cream then I'm sure you can have ice cream! The idea is that it's the ultimate happiness. Whatever that means to you. You can go fishing if that's your thing. You can do whatever you like. You are free. You can create your own paradise.

At least that's how I see it. Seems to make sense. Heaven for me we be filled with music (not just harps! Tee hee) and nature (breathtaking landscapes) and animals and all the people I love that have passed away. Hell would be full of insects. It would be ugly and grey and barren and cold. I don't see it as a pit of fire. Anyway, I won't be going there so I don't have to worry! Tee hee

Seems like you are on a roll ..

A traditional answsr is that we will have physical bodies that are perfect and that we will perhaps have a robe and something to do.

Somehow I don't think we will meet Aslan the lion .. indeed .. unless you have met him in this life. But that would be nice at least for me.

Personally I think that we will be disembodied and/or have a new different kind of body and experences that we can only barely imagine.

I also like people's notions that experencing god in person will be much like experening good sex .. and that we not only can get a notion of the afterlife by having good sex now; we should!

People who think that we will have bodies and that afterlife will be like tir-o-nog mention that not only can you fish in heaven, but they like to be caught and are not harmed by the experence.

I loved the twilight zone where the old mountian man passed on, and would not go anywhere where his hound dog was not welcome .. and that is how get got saved and not stuck into hell.

On good days .. I am a full boat kinda of guy .. and believe that most of us are saved .. that it takes really trying to get on god's bad side and that even the dark one himself could get back into god's graces just by asking.

On bad days my fundy friends get to me.. but I try not to let it bother me, and most of the time it does not.

But all and all .. we can only hope that we will get a good experence.

ps -- added this
I really liked "what dreams may come" .. that the same place on earth or heaven could be a heaven or a hell.

And although not really litteral .. I loved "the five people you meet in heaven" . that we probably will go through some sort of sorting out/pergitory experence.

And I do think we should try hard to experence some heaven on earth with one's fellow people.

to this end Andrew Greeley's "contract with an angel" gives the tone I am striving for .. or perhaps "patience of a saint" or "the devil's advocate"

And no, I don't think that just the Christians are saved and are the only ones to experence god.

Of the 106 billion souls that have ever walked the earth (not counting the Neanderthals or other extinct hominids), what percentage made it to heaven? I'm sure heaven is pretty crowded.. I'd be bored to death after the second mellenia of eternal bliss....but that's just me.

The very concept of an afterlife makes no sense to me in the first place. Without evidence its just fanciful thinking. It's primitive man's way of cushioning us from the reality of the utter death and annihilation that awaits us. Will the plane or alternate universe of heaven disappear when our solar system is caught in a black hole or when our sun supernovas billions of years from now? Just wondering.

Supposing there IS a heaven....

It's my understanding that it's NOTHING like life on earth. No one has a body, people are all just thought and energy. What amuses us and makes us happy on earth are pointless and petty in heaven. Humans in heaven have evolved beyond physical needs and desires.

I personaly like the Buddhist view of "heaven". Nirvana, a state of complete nonexistence and freedom from desire, in a word "contentment".

For heaven's sake... understand the concept of Heaven(;-)

Understanding the whole concept of Heaven? Heaven that is also called as Swarga in Hinduism is the stage when our Atman the soul within waits for a suitable body for it to manifest again. This Atman the soul within has a balance of positive merits due to which it remains in heaven (Swarga).

Any Atman the soul within that has a negative balance of merits is awarded hell, also known as Naraka in Hinduism. Naraka (hell) is also the stage when our Atman the soul within is in waiting for the next manifestation to occur.

Briefly, it can be stated, that if we have the balance of positive merits from zero to plus hundred we shall be awarded the stage of Heaven (Swarga) after our "Atman, The soul Within" has left the mortal frame. However if the balance of merits is between zero and minus hundred our Atman the soul within shall be given a place in hell (Naraka).

Heaven (Swarga) and hell (Naraka) are interim stages in the cosmic Life cycle of our Atman the soul within. The moment this Atman the soul within gets matching parents on Mother Earth... it shall again manifest a body... the body can be that of a Human Being and also of an animal depending upon the balance of merits or demerits possessed by the Atman.

As stated clearly in the Bhagavad Gita... the foremost of all sacred scriptures (the doctrine dictated by Lord Krishna to King Arjuna in the battlefield of Mahabharata between the Pandavas and the Kauravas... no Atman the soul within can directly gain immortality from Heaven.

Lord Krishna is considered as an Avatar (a direct incarnation of God) in Hinduism. He descended on Mother Earth roughly 1000 years before Bhagwan Mahavira, 1077 years before Gautama Buddha, about 1500 years before Jesus Christ and about 1700 years before the advent of Prophet Mohammed.

He was the foremost of all preachers who descended on Mother Earth to pass on to the Humanity the cosmic wisdom of the ages... the doctrine by Lord Krishna which his available in Bhagavad Gita contains everything, knowing which every Human Being on its cosmic journey (the journey being undertaken by our Atman, The Soul Within) can gain enlightenment and finally salvation moksha! Nobody knows exactly what will happen when you get to heaven, but you have to believe and have faith in God. All I know is that it is more amazing than you would think.
