Question

I just finished watching the movie Hostel, after being completely disturbed and horrified by it, I got to thinking.

What leads a human being to desire such things?

For those of you who are not familiar with the movie, it basically goes something like this: Some eastern European country created a market fullfilling sick fantasies of rich people from around the world. Basically what they do is they kidnap people, and handcuff them to a chair in a torture chamber of sorts where the rich patrons pay them to torture and kill in gruesome manners the kidnapped individual. Americans are in high demand.

I wonder what leads people into such psychophatic behaviour? Could it be because they are rich, and having everything that they ever desire becomes boring to them and they want that which is taboo?(we humans bore easily)

I've heard of thing like this happening around the world, such as: people eating human babies, paying to rape a woman, and the more common pedophilia.

Time and time again the people who end up paying for this sort of sick fantasies are middle age to old rich men.

Why is that?

Typically I would say this is a result of searching for validation and a sense of control and power.

Often people (even rich and wealthy people) don't feel in control or powerful internally, so they try to find reassurance and affirmation of their existence through the manipulation of others. To hurt another person, gives them a sense of power and in a twisted fashion that their existence has importance to the world.

The physical manifestation of these acts is often a direct result of the internal inadequacies the person has not been able to overcome within themselves.

Even among the poor there are those who have very sick fantasies -- you don't have to be rich to be twisted. It could be brought on by any number of things, nature, nurture - more specifically their upbringing, where their life style changes have brought them to. Unfortunately there are those who are just born with such personality disorders that cause them to enjoy bringing pain on others -- psychologists, scientists, psychiatrists and others who study human nature would love to find out what triggers this type of sick behavior. Just be grateful you are healthy and able to identify what is wrong with this type of behavior.

I think it has alot to do with they way someone is raised or treated. now days people can be so mean to others that it triggers something off in their brain that makes them do crazy things. I also believe it dose alot with neurons in the brain that they aren't getting enough of something which causes a chemical imbalance.

I did see half of that movie and i had to turn it off it was very disturbing to me. Thats what i think.
