If I run my internet from modem into router then from router to computer, I cannot access the internet. I used tech support, but they could only diagnose if I am haveing hardware issues because I am out of warranty. So the router and cables are working perfectly. My problem is the software configuration. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this problem?

Remember the hardware is working perfectly-->Cables are good

It is hard to know without knowing the specifics. If you have DSL, then one of the problems may be whether you have registered the MAC address of your router with your ISP. ou may have to speak with the support line for your internet service provider to sort out that piece.

If that is not the issue, then typically just doing a power cycle on the router (turn it off by pulling out the power connector, leave it off for about 20 seconds and turn it back on), and by rebotting your computer.

If you know how to configure your Ethernet on your computer, make sure that it is set up to autmotically acquire an IP address, or set it to 192.168.0.1 (which is the normal default address).

If that does not work, you may have to call your internet service provider support line.

Good luck!!

if you can directly connect your computer to the modem and get connection, there are two ways of fixing this.

if you have an icon that you have to use to get connected to the internet when you turn your computer on, this is a dialup type of internet connection. you'll need to setup the internet connection using the username and password that you use to connect on the router.

to do this, first turn your computer on. click on start, then run.
type 'cmd' and press enter (without the quotes)

you should have a black screen. type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes, again) and press enter. you want to know what your default gateway is. this is the ip address of your router.

open up your internet browser. type the ip address of your router that you found in the above instructions.

you should get a prompt for username and password.
if you know the username and password, enter it here. if not, use admin for username and admin for password. typically it works. or try a blank password.

if it doesn't work, you'll have to reset the puppy. there should be a small reset button at the back of the netgear. unplug the router, press and hold the reset, then plug it in. press and hold the reset for at least 10 seconds and then let go. if you had to reset, restart your computer and get your default gateway again. this may change once you reset.

now, you have to go to the internet connection properties. since i don't know which model you have, you'll have to search around. if you find it, you'll have to select one that will allow you to enter the username and password. this should do the trick.

if you don't have to launch a program or enter a username and password to connect without using a router (directly into your internet modem) then try resetting the netgear router, go to their website to download the configuration program which will give you step by step instructions on how to setup your router.

oh, one more thing. if you have cable modem, you just need to turn your cable modem off, leave it off for 15 minutes minimum, then turn the sucker back on and plug it straight into your netgear. cable modems work by mac addresses and if you had it plugged in to your computer straight and then changed it to your netgear, it's not connecting because your mac address of the netgear is different than that of your computer.
good luck.

Open exploder or firefox, type in the gateway address: 192.168.1.1, or whatever netgear uses as a default gateway. From there you enter a password, usually "admin" is default, though I don't know about Netgear. From here you can configure your router, making sure DHCP works, see what computers are connected to the router, etc.. Maybe someone with more Netgear experience could help him more...

First download the driver from the netgear website. This should come with software in which you can configure your internet connections. If this does not work make sure you have all the right cords especially the power cords (transformer, etc) and they are all plugged in right. Otherwise your router might be shot so crack it open and make sure the terminals are connected

there's a series to plugging a on the spot router (or any router for that be counted) right into a broadband modem. you've turn off the modem, watch for it to ability up (all light fixtures except for the interest mild must be good eco-friendly,) then plug the router into your modem and turn the router on. make effective you've the Ethernet cable going from the modem into the "Ethernet enter" of your router. have you ever tried plugging your computer into the router with the aid of stressed connection? once you've and that works, yet your on the spot isn't operating, then it isn't your router.

I also acquired a netgear router and had the same problem. If you raise hell enough with tech support they will fix the problem. I did this, unfornately, I had a power surge a week later and it messed up my settings. Hope whoever bought that puppy off ebay had better luck than I did. :)
