If the Administrator suggestion from the other users does not succeed, and you are fairly computer literate, you may try to dowload the Ultimate Boot Cd http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
After you would download and burn the cd image from the website, you put the disc into the computer and allow the computer to boot from it. There then is an option under NTFS tools which is "Offline NTFS Password and Registry Editor." Its text based and you could seriously damage your data if done incorrectly, but it will allow you to type in any password for any user account (including administrator).
The only other problem other than the potential to harm your windows installation is you may not (after changing the password) be able to access any files which were encrypted using the EFS encryption in Windows 2000/XP.
It may all sound complicated, however there are plenty of tutorials on the website where you get the software, and all in all this option should only be used as a last resort to other attempts.

No... if you have Windows XP and you've forgotten your account password and can't login, you can try rebooting in safe mode and logging in as the Administrator, which doesn't have a password by default, unless someone's added one. Reboot your laptop and hold down F8 while it's starting. Move the cursor to Safe Mode and let it start up, when you reach the XP login screen you MIGHT be able to log in as Administrator... either click the name or type it in the box. This will let you access User Accounts in the Control Panel where you can remove/reset your other account's password. If you can't get in as Administrator, you're pretty much screwed, although a good computer tech might be able to hack the password for you.
