You have loaded the songs from the disk to the PC, right. Now you see all those little boxes with the green checkmarks? All the marked songs are going to try to go on your iPod. After you have settled on which songs you want, Go to the top left corner and click on 'file'. Scroll down and click 'update iPod'. Watch the progress bar. It shouldn't take long. Also, your iPod will charge its' battery through your PC, maybe that why you're still getting the "do not disconnect". After your update is complete, go ahead and unplug it and test it. you should be fine.

You need to eject you iPod before disconnecting it. On a mac, drag the iPod icon to the trash or press the eject symbol next to your iPod on the iTunes menu. Don't know about on a PC.
