how can u compare them!? look at their age difference! look at their style of play! look at the level of experience each of them have! they are absolutely 2 different players...in my opinion its impossible to compare them.... and u gotta say in what aspects do u mean... each on is better than the other when it comes to certain aspects.. they are too different when it comes to their style of play.

I cant believe this was asked , but at any lengths I think its Eto'o since he can play several different roles on the team than the less experienced Messi . He can lay direct striker , play the left and right midfield as well as assist strongly in defense .This was characteristic during the run to the Champions league triumph last season . Also the lack of this utility has Barca far from the dominant force they can be. Also he scores almost a goal a game , how can a record like that be questioned .

I think it’s ok to compare even if they play different positions ‘cuz you can still weigh the pros and cons of how effective they are playing those positions, right? anyway, they both excel in their game, both are fast and able to sprint to position the only difference being that messi usually has the tougher job ‘cuz he plays midfield and I guess has more ground to cover (lol ), plus he has to be creative with positioning if he wants to make that left kick work for him. anyway, all i’m saying is these 2 both carry a lot of weight in team performance in the sense that if messi or eto’o aren’t playing well then the overall game suffers cuz they play impt positions with eto'o only slightly more elevated bec. he is a striker and if he is off form then the results reflect more directly. Only thing I notice with these two, and maybe this is the take off pt. in the comparison we’re attempting here is with respect to how they play the defense. Messi has shown vast improvements in this dept bec. he seems to be playing tougher now than before and can handle better an opponent’s defensive game but this hasn’t always been the case, at least in the matches I’ve seen. eto’o on the other is a natural “aggressor”, if I may call him that, lol. he is fearless and can mount challenges on the other team’s defense all the way to the net -his dribbling skills are a bit better than messi. which is why he is more exciting to watch and in this sense the “better “ player for me. although messi is equally capable of brilliant and ingenious (sp?) plays, eto’o is THE warrior and he’s quite unstoppable when he has his eye on the goal. i'm probbly not discussing technique here very well but this is how emotionally, at least, these 2 guys impact on a viewer like me. : ))

Both are different players at different positions doin different things. Messi is a youngster , playing on the wings and doin great at his age, Eto'o is at the peak of his footballing carreer, However, at the moment Eto'o is more important to a team than Messi, any team would take Eto'o on a seasons loan n not Messi provided the team already has two world-class strikers n not good-enough wingers

Both of them are superb players in their ages.Lionel Messi is the Golden Boy,but if you compare him to Samuel Eto'o,of course Eto'o wins because of the difference in age and experience.Messi is still so young, don't compare him yet to an excellent professional football player like Samuel Eto'o.

They're both fantastic players of Barca. And, its impossible to compare them. They are equally good- Eto'o as a striker, and Messi as a MF, and winger. No one is better than the other.
From my point of view, I like Messi better. Coz, I'm a huge fan of Argentina.
