The common string is their unbound ambition to rule the world. They were conquerers. And imperialists too. Their ambitions cost the lives of uncountable innocent people and huge damage to property. Yes, people or rather leaders like them exist even today. Saddam Hussain wanted to annexe Iran first and then Kuwait. Both ended in failures. Pervez Musharraf wants to take Kashmir. His adventure in Kargil ended in a failure. And any President of the USA wants to be the defacto ruler of the world.

Don't know about "many more", but the three you mentioned had this in common, that they were all uncommon, meaning a bit "different", which gave them some reason to feel insecure. Napoleon was short, Alexander was gay, and Hitler, reportedly had only one of that which most men have two.
