What is up with my dad? If you read my last qustion you will know the story, but tonight I was lying on the floor and my dad looked over at me and he is all like "you look so much like your mom" and the paused for a second and said "dead." Why is he making wise cracks like these? This isn't the first time.

Yeah, I already answered your other question.

I can't know for sure because I can't see inside his head.

But I know my family makes jokes like that, too. They're kind of morbid if you're not used to them but they make us laugh.

He was probably serious when he said you looked like your mom. Then he wasn't sure if you'd start crying or get mad because he mentioned her or what ... because like I said on your other question, he doesn't know your real feelings about it.

So he had to make a joke out of it and chose to make a morbid one. Maybe he meant you seemed emotionally dead. Maybe he was really just kidding. Maybe he meant you seemed pale or sick at the moment and was concerned but still trying to joke.

I think after you tell him the truth about the trip, you should mention that you don't like those kinds of jokes because they still hurt you. He'll understand that you're still cherishing her memory and probably try to stop.

Listen, your 15. A bit young for me too have too say this but you posted the question and I will put down my thoughts, first, you sound like a sweet girl, I mean this in the most positive form, you seem level headed.. and that is good, you do need to communicate better with your dad... a shrug of the shoulder is childish.. please stand, face him eye too eye the next time he talks too you and let himknow how you feel as he requested your input and you lost your rights when you refused to give an honest reply, .. you deserve too be heard and your dad wanted to know how you felt.. not if you could move your shoulders... got it.

Well, here comes my reply:

welcome too life,.... there are times when it sucks and caused by the ones we love, sometimes it is an accident that befalls us, takes away our mothers and you wish for that feeling you once had when your mom would make the pain go away with a simple hug, but for what ever reason life snatches that from us... god I wish I only knew why... but I havn't talked too him about that much, ... but then there comes a time in our lives when we plant our feet and realize that life will go forward with or with out me, them , us, you, the world, society etc..... it comes from with-in, with adulthood, maturity, or possibly the scarring of lifes wound that allows us too move on..

you are the master of your own ship.. don't blame others for this or that, make what you can with what you have, move forward, become a better person even if life seems to be dumping on you, which after reading your posts... kind of is... but you know what... too bad.... been there, made the movie...

This kind of lecture is more for an 18 year old... and sorry at 15 for the loss of your mom, bitter dad and mixed up brothers... be the best sister you can be, your dad will live his life regardless, learn to become a productive person in society, get all the education you can, become independant of little minded and closed minded thinking, learn to love yourself as you are with the strength to become better and understand in the strongest of words, that LIFE IS NOT FAIR and the world for the most part... DOES NOT CARE... but one thing that is important is that you do care because some day you will have a little one tugging at your arm looking for a hug and you need to be there to give her the biggest hug of your daughters life... :)
