I'm concerned because my mother in law has a dog, and my 7 month old daughter likes to play with him, but a lot of times my mother in law is holding the baby, talking on the phone and when she is distracted, the dog licks my daughters mouth! I hate being a "germophobic" but I just worry about my daughter. I don't wanna sound too exaggerated, but I wanna know how bad is this? If it's not that serious, I will just "lighten up" a little and stop worrying about the goofy dog licking her mouth. But IF IT IS SERIOUS and she can get sick, I don't want that dog near her!

Could yo please help me!?

Thanks!!

Put your worries to rest, dogs have the cleanest mouths, though with the way their breath smells this is hard to believe. Dogs actually have natural healing power in the glands of their tongue, so I would not worry so much about germs, harmful germs cannot survive in the mouth of a dog.

Dog's spit is cleaner than human spit. It contains less bacteria.

More importantly, has it crossed your mind that it is HEALTHIER for her TO be licked on the face by a dog? Haven't you seen images of happy, laughing children being licked enthusiastically by a furry best friend? I think it would actually do her more harm to pull her away from the dog and teach her to fear "dirty animals" and "germs" and be insecure about interacting with other creatures than to let her play without fear with a loyal pet.

In the end, psychological health is always far more important than physical health. You can recover from sickness, especially those caused by germs, but if you're unwell psychologically, there often is no cure. Furthermore, a person's psychological state can be the thing that determines if they get better or worse, even if they live or die.

Being germophobic about your daughter and the dog will teach her something that causes much harm than any germs could possibly cause. And being licked on the face by the dog has benefits similar to love, hugs, and kisses. And finally- dogs' mouths really aren't very germy, in fact they are cleaner than your own!!

Most people will say no...But my childrens doctor told me that dog food has salminila & ecoli (? spelling) in it or it is common for it to be in it. SO if the dog just ate the germs could be passed on & make your daughter sick, also make sure dog food / bowl is picked up off the floor as if baby picks up, plays with or tries to eat it she could also get sick. It may be rare for it to happen, but why take the chance, you know!

there is not any earnings to the toddler or the canines for the canines to lick your toddler's face. the purely human being who reward is your mom in regulation as perchance she is attempting to reveal how reliable her canines is. that's your toddler and no human being else contained in the international has their perfect pastimes at heart than you do. in the adventure that your mom in regulation does no longer respect your needs and also you experience strongly adequate then you favor to guard your toddler and make this sparkling in no unclear words. in my opinion i believe that a canines has a good looking experience of scent and would get adequate information about your toddler from throughout the time of the room and for this reason has no reason to be closer than a minimum of 5 ft away. A canines is a predatory animal and in a chop up 2d can view your toddler as prey (because of the squeaks and jerky movements children make) and that i doubt your mom in regulation would then be close to adequate or quick adequate to guard your baby. dogs educate their love and respect for others by giving them area and last calm for this reason this behaviour should be inspired truly. Please also be conscious that a children immune gadget is amazingly fragile and liable to all way of ailments - has your toddler had all their jabs yet? Take time to visual reveal unit the canines and note what it eats, licks and sniffs and then you'd be sensible as to what's entering your toddler's mouth.

The last thing the dog licked prior to licking the child's mouth was probably its own rectum or penis- or those of a friend- Feces contains lots of bacteria and germs. I would worry lots for the the health of the child. The germ advocates who suggest this activety is healthful for the child should be swimming in sewers for their own health.

baby's immune system isn't as good as adults', and dog has germs that might make people sick if human beings are over intimate with it. over intimate i mean by sharing food or something like that. it's probably not that serious but i would avoid it as much as i can. i can't stand just the thought of it!

I would not worry to much if the dog is up-to-date on shots and kept clean. The only thing I would worry about is the dog biting the baby. You should have your mother in law keep the dog away from her.

The more you keep germs away from the baby the more susceptible to your baby is to get sick because her immune system isn't kept up.
