Try having funds put directly from your paycheck into savings. Also, put it into funds that are not as easily accessed as a regular savings account or in the same place where you have your checking (not having the two linked in anyway is makes it harder to spend it).

Judging by your screen name, you might be a senior citizen. If you are, and you are age 62 or older, you may qualify for a reverse mortgage. If your exisiting mortgage is less than 50% of the market value of your home, you may be able to use a reverse to pay off this mortgage and have no monthly payments. Then you could start saving money. If you would like specific information, email me, Jeff Walther at reversemortgagesforseniors@yahoo.com

One of the hardest things to do when trying to save money is getting rid of unnecessary expenses. Things like major debts (what you owe on your bills, cards, etc) have to be paid, of course, but things like that cup of coffee every morning on your way to work or school, that extra restaurant visit, that extra bit of cosmetics or a computer game you don't need or really have time for ... these are all things that add up, a little at a time, under your radar, and without you really knowing it. Then you don't know why you can't save up money, while you have a pile of stuff accumulating around you.

Determining what is luxury is easy, determining a luxury disguised as a necessity is harder.

Saying you don't need a DVD player or cable TV or vacation is easy, saying you don't need a life insurance or school or medical treatment is harder. Do you really need that life insurance or school or medical treatment?
