Bangla-desh means "Bengali-nation" It was named by the political leader, prime minister of Bangladesh (1972–75), popularly known as Sheikh Mujib as its a nation formed by, for and of bengali speaking people.
100% of the population of Bangladesh can speak bengali and are bengali's by ethnicity as well.

Bangla means a language that the people of that country speak.
Desh means Country. So Bangladesh means the people of a country speak in Bengali languse.
