When you find yourself living among a pack of wolves, to survive one must howl like wolf.

A big hello from Scotland where, unfortunately, the capitalist ethic of dog-eat-dog is well and truly entrenched despite the fact we now have our own limited parliament devolved from England's Westminster.

There's no escaping capitalism, because it's endemically pandemic. Even if you vote for a 'left-of-centre' government, all they can do is smooth some of the harshest, more painful effects of capitalism on the poorer elements of society.

And countries such as Canada, Britain and Germany are undoubtedly fully-fledged members of the capitalist club. Because if you listen closely and intently you'll hear them say, "Woof woof, hooooowwwlllllll" in true capitalist blood-curdling form. And they all dress like wolves.

Ideally, capitalism has everyone competing and putting products out on a market. Those who can produce the best products at the lowest prices triumph over less efficient and pricier opponents.

Alas, the reality is that some people/countries have a head start in this game (more $, started sooner, more expertise, etc) and as such, they have an advantage that allows them to out-do their competitors and dominate the market.

Where's the choice in that? How can anyone expect to compete against the giants of industry and finance in a system that they've gained so much from?

And, in the end, the big dog ends up gobbling up the other dog easily.

Read Upton Sinclair. THE JUNGLE. it depicts the meat packing world at the turn of the century. That era was a capitolist as it got.
Read THE OCTOPUS, about railroading in the late 19th C.
I would toss in Grapes of Wrath and IRONWEED as well. In short un fettered capitolism created a society that preyed on the underclasses.

Fact: People have been saying that since the dawn of the age of reason.
Fact: Most of the time, when someone says we're doomed, they're wrong.
Fact: Everyone is a critic, everyone has their own opinions of who runs what kind of society.

No.

There are no "facts" that would support an answer of either yes or no. It depends on your beliefs about what is economically sound or unsound.
