Im' liking red hot chili peppers in ur list the best...any RHCP song from any RHCP album is great...I encourage you to d-l songs from all of their albums and see how their style has changed and how unique all their songs are. Also may I suggest d-ling anything from the Killers album, Hot Fuss.
Here are some other artists to check out that are unique or stand out....311, Pink Spiders, Flyleaf, Paramore, The Sounds,
Beck(the album Guero), Orgy....
There are many more but these one are all different and unique...you may not like them all but give them all a listen and find out. It never hurts to broaden your musical horizons.

Actually it's cool that you mention U2 - I just heard the song "Window In The Skies" off of their 2006 album entitled U218 Singles. Awesome song.
What about some Journey? They're light rock - my favorite song by them is "Faithfully" from their 1983 Frontiers album. And of course you can't go wrong with "Don't Stop Believin'" off of their 1981 Escape album.

Hmm... well, I don't know if my favorite song on my playlist is "Light" alternative. But, a couple of songs I like are "Dani California" by RHCP, "Barely Breathing" by Duncan Sheik, "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia, and "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer.

If you are truly open minded with regards to music then you'll probably like:
Mustard Plug: http://www.mustardplug.com
Dance Hall Crashers: http://www.dancehallcrashers.com
Mad Caddies: http://www.madcaddies.com
Pulley: http://www.x-members.com
Swingin' Utters: http://www.swinginutters.com
Sabrina Stewart: http://www.sabrinastewart.com
Fabulous Disaster: http://www.fabulous-disaster.com
However, you won't hear these bands on mainstream, corporate radio (of course) because they are talented bands that play good music...but, as we all know, that's not marketable so the mainstream music industry ignores them (thank God!). Enjoy!
