I want to make some ornaments for a tree and it's going to be really bright colors to fit in with the colors in my dorm.. Like pink, kiwi, aqua... That sort!! But I want to make ornaments in those colors and lots of glitter that look store bought and not the usual homemade.. Anyone know where I can find instructions for chic handmade ornaments? Thanks in advance!

Those are a few of the sites available. But I find your question funny because most people when they buy anything are looking for "as good as home made", and you want the exact opposite.

I went to Hobby Lobby the other day and they had a bunch of stuff that would go great with that kind of tree. They had bright colored feathers, long ones, that you just kinda stick in the branches, and they had sequin and glittery branch like things. I can't really describe what those are, but they are about 2 foot long, and branch out on one end and the "branches" are covered in large sequins and glitter. They were in the artificial flowers department.

I made some ornaments once and this is what I did.

Buy those clear glass ornaments that come either 6 or 12 in a box and take the metal top off of them. Use acrylic paint in what ever colors that you are doing your tree in, and if you can find irridesent or shimmery paint, that would look even better. Squeeze a small amout of paint into the hole at the top and swirl it around making swirly designs inside the ball, then while that is still wet, squeeze in a second color and swirl it also, covering any areas not covered by the first color. I have never tried to do 3 colors, but you can probably try that if you want to. Turn the balls upside down on little paper cups to drain out the excess paint and then once they are dry, replace the metal tops.

Another chic ornament that you can do is to buy lengths of beads in whatever color you like and use hot glue to attach them to plastic ornament balls. Just attach them to the top or bottom and wrap them around and around the ball, glueing as you go around.

You can also take those cheap plastic ball ornaments and cover them in glue and roll them in glitter in those colors that you like.

Good luck, and it sounds like that would be a cute tree. I have a cowboy husband so I had to do a western tree.

Buy clear glass ornaments and pour a little metallic acrylic craft paint in those colors inside the globe and swirl around until you have a pleasing pattern. Don't worry if the entire inside surface doesn't get covered, because after they dry, pour in a little white school glue and swirl around to cover the empty spots and sprinkle in some glitter and shake gently. The glitter will stick to the glue and will show up nicely once the glue dries clear.

Seriously, here is the answer to your question. Simple, cheap, and so cool. People will never guess how you made these chic and colorful ornaments. I made mine using a star cookie cutter as a guide for the wire. I'm putting them on every gift I give this year. Have fun!!!

Last Christmas I brought some glass ball and paint them using those 'window paint color' (it's like gel form).
