Choose whatever name you love! "Astrid" is the first name of the author who wrote the Pippi Longstocking series. Rychel sounds a bit like a surname and looks a bit like "Rachel" spelled incorrectly, but if it is beautiful to you, it is the best choice.

Hey... Just had to answer this, my first name is Astrid, middle name is Elizabeth. To clear some things up:
1) I love my name! I've NEVER been teased or bullied because of it. Every time I meet someone new, they always compliment me on it. "What a beautiful name!" "That's so unusual!" etc... For other people to say your daughter will get picked on is just untrue.
And I'm 14, we all know how bitchy teenage girls can be about things, but nup I have plenty of friends, both boys and girls :)
I have Danish blood in me aswell, from my dad's side, so my name's also appropriate in that sense....
2) However, I don't really like Rychel. It's your choice, but I have to say that to make up for having an uncommon first name, a more common middle name seems to be appropriate. Elizabeth was picked also because my parents liked it.
Astrid Rachel sounds cool though...? www.babynames.com is good if you need any ideas.
Please keep Astrid... it's so much more interesting than many other popular names out there.
Good luck :)

I really like the name Astrid - did you read or see White Oleander!?
Maybe change the middle name to something a bit more traditional since Astrid is so uncommon ...
like Astrid Elizabeth, or Astrid Joy ...got the idea?

sorry, I agree with your sister. Astrid is not a pretty name, and Rychel is just too wierd. Are you going to pronounce it Rachel? This kid has to live with her name for the rest of her life. I wouldn't do this to her if I were you. Why can't you come up with a normal name?

I'm sorry I think it is weird.
When I was reading this question I didn't realise that it was a baby name question at first as I had just got done answering a question about autism.
I saw Astrid Rychel and thought it was some new disease....sorry.....my mistake I skimmed the question and didn't read it properly.
Astrid is ok, or how about Ingrid?
But not Astrid Rychel together.

Honesty... Astrid is Horrid! think she would be made fun of , however it is your child & if you like it use it. Or you could do what I had to , my husband insisted on naming my son Conan, I could just see him being calles cone head in school so it is his middle name in our society it is rarely used excpet when you are disaplining your child, lol! Good Luck

WEIRD. Names are important in life.........I hope she will reconsider!! Especially on the first name.
Ashley would be better. Or Andrea. Michelle is prettier than Rychel.

No offense to you, but I think it is wierd and your child would probably be picked on about it later in life.
