how many years of cosmetology school do I have to take? I'm 18. I live in California. I almost graduate High school, and I would like to study for a make up artist.. so I need to know the important for me information...Help me please!!!!!!!!

To become a MAKEUP artist you do not have to go to a cosmetology school or class. Cosmetology is the treatment of skin, hair and nails and includes, but is not limited to, manicures, pedicures, application of artificial nails, special occasion hairstyling, shampooing hair, cosmetic application, body hair removal, chemical hair relaxers or straighteners, permanent waves, coloring and highlighting of hair, and hair extensions or wig treatments. A person who is licensed in cosmetology is called a cosmetologist. A cosmetologist, sometimes called a beautician, a beauty specialist, or an esthetician or aesthetician, is a worker who specializes in giving beauty treatments. The recipients of these treatments are usually women, however there is a growing number of men. A general cosmetologist is proficient in all forms of beauty care and can give hair treatments, facials, skin treatments, and nail treatments. There are specific disciplines of cosmetology that some cosmetologists may specialize in. The different types of special cosmetologists include hair stylists, shampooers, manicurists, estheticians and electrologists. Many cosmetologists specialize in at least one of these categories. To become a makeup artist go to a school that specializes and MAKEUP and take MAKEUP classes. Also, working for a MAKEUP artist can help as well. If you want to be a cosmetologist go to beauty school. A cosmetologist and MAKEUP artist are different. You do not have to go to college.

Check into a cosmetology school. From what I have researched you don't have to have a general degree. And cosmetology school takes approx 1 1/2 yrs. It's dependent on how many hours you can carry a semester. You may be able to do it in a year.

You can go to any beauty college near by and take the required courses. Check your local area and go talk to someone there. I did. They will give you the low down on exactly how many hours of what courses you will need to acomplish what you want to do and how much it will cost-its not that expensive, compared to regular colleges and they should have a credit or loan program available.
I dont think you need general ed to work as a make up artist anywhere. but it wouldnt hurt to take a business class at the local city college, if you are planning on going into business for yourself someday.

oh my aunt is a makeup artist and she just went to highschool and then beauty school u dont need to go to college and its sooo cool. she meets all these famous people , she goes to awesome places, and she works in cbs and msnbc new stations, i got to go there a couple of times and the hairstylist did my hair... my aunt knows how to do hair too and i think u should know how to do hair too bc u can make some extra bucks on the side... and plus my aunt is this famous celebrity's makeup artist... but i cant say the name soo yea

no its no necessary to go for 2yrs course it depends what they r teaching
even i m a cosmetologist what u all have to do is study deep if u wanna b the best one
make up is a wonderful thing.
go for it search for best institute i have done it from VLCC from INDIA

well yea you do...or mayb more depends wat u want 2 do because i m in cosmetology n i have 4 years studying 4 it...im learning 2 do hair..nails....wax...massage...haistyle n everything else there is to do...so it takes me 4 years...but if u dont want 2 do all of tat only 1 it could take u less...it al depends on wat u wanna do

you probably don't put it really helps... think about it... would YOU want to pay someone that isn't a professional to do your makeup?
