Actually, i like Nevin and Onnica, never heard them and very original, spelling on both is easy and you know what the name is without having to try to guess......the only thing on the last name, im traditional and the baby would get the fathers last name no matter what the sex was. Just my opinion but neat names!

If you're deciding on the baby's last name because of the sex...why? Just hyphenate it no matter what and be done with it. I like Onnica and Nevin, but I'm not crazy about Dame or Madison. Dame has a negative connotation (I'm aware that it's also a title), and Madison is WAAAY overused as a girl's name. How about Onnica Isobel or Nevin Scott? That way they have something more traditional to fall back on if they want to be a lawyer or an architect, and a more unusual name that they might love if not.

I think it's fine to give girls the mom's name and boys the dad's name. I went to school with some Cambodian kids who had names like that. It's actually getting to be cool nowadays.

Onnica Dame Skye ... I like the way it sounds all right but when you read it all those are "unusual" names. You could spell it Annika instead and then it wouldn't look as strange. But it's your child, so if that doesn't matter to you, then at least the way it sounds is good.

Nevin Madison Brackett ... I like Nevin okay, because it's kind of like Devin or Neville (it also reminds me of the unique name Seven). But Madison is getting to be more of a girl's name nowadays. So I would suggest something like Emerson or Garrison instead ... they have the same feeling but nobody will think he's a girl from looking at his name.

Those are fine for names; I like giving the last names different because it emphasizes the importance of the female line. I like the way they sound, too. Maybe think about those suggestions if you're open to changing it a little. But if those are special to you then they're great! The best name is the one you fall in love with.

I really like both names. I'm not sure if Skye and Brackett are last or middle names but I wouldn't change them. As for last names what ever you agree on is fine. My husband (yes husband) do not have the same name by my choosing and have a agreement that any and all boys will get my last name and girls get his. Even if you get married in the future (if you aren't) you don't have to change your name or the children's. These days it is not uncommon for children to have different last names then their parents or their siblings. An option to give you family cohision (and the one I will most likely do some day) is to hypanate. Say your name is Jones and your man's is Smith you could get your names changed to Jones-Smith for you and Smith-Jones for him. That makes it apparent to even the simplest person that the children are both of yours. Don't let a bunch of strangers give you crud about the last names. I have never had a problem with not having the same name as my hubby or daughter. I do take my marriage license to all goverment offices to prove I am married but there has never been a problem anywhere, even when I went into the BMV with a piece of mail bearing Mr and Mrs Hubby's name and told them I just moved and this is all I have to prove address but that is not my name.

I'm of the mindset that names shouldn't be embarrassing. Or long. Those kids will have more names than some have enough ink to write them.

I say give them both last names and let them choose when they get older. (hyphenate them) And only one or no middle name.

Here you go: say the names over the phone and see if anyone understands what you're saying, let alone what you're spelling. They will have to do this over 2,000 times in their lifetime, so why make it so hard on them?

Also, I know you guys have a bunch of 'cool sounding' names that you like and you don't want to leave any out, but do they have to have four names? Nevin is a good name; not too common, solid sounding. But Onnica will be spelled 'Anika' 99% of the time. She will go on correcting the speller 2,000+ times. How annoying for her. I like it, it rolls of the tongue nicely, but all too often parents forget that the child has to wear these names until they find out they can change them (like I finally did.)

How 'bout Miel (that's ME-el) for the girl? It's "honey" in Spanish. If she's going to have to spell here name EVERY time she talks to someone might as well make it short and sweet. Good conversation starter, too.

(Oh, so you've already put the last names on there? I didn't figure you would do that on the internet. Scratch the part where I chastised you for having four names per child.)

Madison is used so much as a girls name now... I liek Nevin though.

Onnica is cool.. but I dont like Dame.

do they have 2 middle names or are those the last names? cause Onnica Skye is nice. Brackett.. I just dont think it sounds like anything but a last name.

Nevin Axel sounds cool.

but what ever... Congrats!

I love the name Onnica - I've also seen it Annika and Aunika.

I don't like the boy name.

I don't think you should decide the last name based on the sex of the child. Just make your last name the child's third name, that's what I have. I have 4 names altogether, but not hyphenated or anything. What happens if you have more children? Brothers and sisters won't even end up with the same last names.

Toooooooooooooo many names!! Nevin should have a strong middle name like Harrison, Emerson, Elliot, etc. Madison is too girlish. BOTH children should have their father's last name.

They are okay. Not my favorite though. I think it should have the fathers last name no matter if its a boy or a girl. But in the end its up to you!
