When I was a kid, we would order pizza on Christmas Eve, just because it was such a busy day. Then we would go to Midnight Mass.
On Christmas Day, we would open presents, then go to relatives' house for the rest of the day.
Nowadays, because I'm with a Ukranian/Polish girl, we have a dinner of 12 meatless dishes on Christmas Eve at her parents place. Then on Christmas Day, we open gifts and have another big meal.
This year, our first born son is 18 months old, and we're still not sure what's happening. I feel we should incorporate both our family traditions, even though mine is a liitle less traditional than my fiancee's.

When my daughter was young, I realized that the season was really becoming too commercialized. It was then that I started my own "tradition". On Christmas Eve I gather my children and whoever else is at our home and we turn off the television and lights. I then read the Nativity story in Luke from our family bible by candlelight. Afterwards, we spend a few moments reflecting on the true meaning of the season.

We try to ignore the fact that we are tired and don't want to be awake to let the kids open presents, eat, and then pass out, forgetting that we have presents of our own and not remembering to open them until like new year's eve.
