Yes, I do. But then, there are those who call me a witch, so I guess it's not too hard to understand.
The image of the earth as a Mother of us all is ancient, and makes people more respectful of Her, so for that reason alone I go along with it. But generally I say Mother Nature, rather than Mother Earth, because I want to get past the idea that we can't leave and go to other planets and make ourselves at home there, as well. This is our mother, our home. But when you grow up, you leave Mommy and go out on your own.

Yes and No. I am not a pagan so I do not consider Earth a mother so to speak (and no I have nothing against pagans), but I do thank my God for the earth and all of its offerings. Do I teach "Thanks", yes I teach my students to be thankful, even though it is lost in our schools to teach good morals within a specific lesson as we all race to meet NCLB standards.

Mother Earth is a wondrous thing because without it we wouldn't be alive today. If Earth wasn't here there might not be life any where else in this world. I think giving thanks is a great thing to do. I just don't like people who litter and waste water and heat.
