It can be very cold or not so cold and still snow. When it is very cold the snow is small and doesn't stick together well to make snowmen or snowballs. That was how it was the other day when it snowed here. The temp was about 20 degrees F and we got snow. However, there are times when it is in the 30s and even low 40s and it snows. THAT snow usually falls in big, wet flakes and is great for the snowball fight or snowmen. So, as you can tell, it snows when it's cold AND not so cold. And, to note, most of us who deal with very cold temperatures know what to do to keep our pipes from bursting. It got down to 3 degrees F. the other night and my pipes survived just fine.

Its actually warmer when it snows, it insulates the ground. The pipes burst because the water freezes and the pipes cant take the pressure. We used to leave the water driiping on really cold nights.

Yes, snow only occurs when the temperature is in a small zone. Usually if temperatures dip below 29 degrees farenheit, it is too cold to snow. Snow must be formed between 34 and 29 degrees farenheit.

Yes it's cold when it snows! I'm from Pennsylvania and winters there are very cold. I know pipes freeze easily when it gets too cold, but I've never heard of them bursting before. It may happen in areas that get extremely cold, though.

no, actually the first snow of the year is usually a beautiful non-windy 32 degree day. It's just usually gets really cold after the snow. We just got 7.5 inches on Friday - and my son and I just dug the snow out of our drive way. It's work - but it's fun, too and very pretty. It does get old in Jan, Feb and by then I am ready for my crocus and daffodils.! Come to Chicago sometime! :)

it doesn't have to be way colder than that to snow. I live in Utah and it snows all the time here, but it doesn't have to be really cold. Usually, it won't be very cold, and it will snow, and the snow will make the air even colder.

I agree with the first person. When the conditions are just right, that is when it snows. Snow will not happen when it is very very cold. When it is very cold there will only be ice

Actually unless it's really windy it's not to cold when it snows. The snow clouds are low so the heat stays closer to the ground.

it's not usually as cold as you think when it snows. It's when it's too cold to snow that pipes burst.
