philippine airlines has a longer history and is the first flag carrier of the philippines. planes and staff are a little bit old. quite expensive and a lot to be desired. cebu pacific is a budget carrier that has a newer fleet of planes and younger staff. cebu pacific is the second flag carrier of the philippines and is very cheap compared to philippine airlines. if a certain route is served solely by philippine airlines, very expensive. the moment cebu pacific comes in then philippine airlines slashes its ticket as much as half to compete with cebu pacific. in a way competition is good to keep prices down. will take cebu pacific as often as i can to make lucio tan bring down philippine airlines ticket down.

philippine airlines and air philippines are both owned by lucio tan. he also owns allied bank, philippine national bank, asia brewery(the second largest local beer manufacturer), foremost farms and progressive farms(reputed to be the largest in the world), fortune tobacco and a lot more busineesses in the philippines. he sponsors chinese youth annually to xiamen, china for educational and cultural training for up to two months subsidized by him. he is much loved by the chinese community for his philantrophic works.

PAL and Air Philippines are better, service in the air and on the ground. It's almost impossible to obtain a refund from Cebu Pacific if the situation warrants.
Cebu Pacific also has some flights like Singapore to Manila, flying at night. New Airbus aircraft, but the seat backs are only up to your shoulder and there is no way you could sleep.

I prefer Philippine Airlines to Cebu Pacific because I feel safer in their planes. PAL's are newer though I heard that CebuPac has upgraded their planes. But still, PAL's still the flag carrier and their food tastes better, too. What's more is that PAL uses the better airport for domestic and international flights. CebuPac's still in the old airport which is no match compared to the new one PAL is using.

I go for PAL I believe they are straight forward to their customer and they don't put hidden cost such charging you in advance for 20kg even without your consent. I fly with PAL either domestic or international. There is some problem sometimes but that's the way they make heir policy. But don't mess up with your flight because cost you a bit more in rebooking that's crazy it may sound.

But I am learning beside this airline I consider air asia is good choice.

I flew both airlines between Dumaguete and Manila several times in 2004-2005. The interior of the PAL planes seemed to be in better condition - they looked newer overall.

Philippine Airlines is better. The pilots are well trained and the stewardesses are friendly.

both are about the same, because of the large number of islands internal flights are there strong point international not so much. booking on line is easier with cebu pacific ,as long as u dont need to make changes to your flight later. internal flights tend to fly from main hubs and not place to place, this is not good, for example, if you want to go to Dumagete from manila then on to Cebu(which u can see from Dumagete) u have to go back to manila and then to Cebu. internal flights are very cheap, Manila to Dumagete one way about $40 if u book early
