Why do you have to have him be social at the Christmas party? He probably doesn't want to go anyway. Why stress the guy out by making him actually talk to a bunch of people he probably doesn't even know, and won't even see until the next Christmas party?

Isn't the fact that he's attending the event with you enough? Why can't you guys just go and have a good time with each other, and not worry about what those 'other' people think? Are you afraid that on Monday morning that the gals in the office are going to be gossiping about how your husband wasn't social 'enough'?

I think it's great that he's even agreed to go to the Christmas party with you. Shouldn't that be enough?

A gentle reminder that he is being judged by his bosses might work, because he is.
At a place where I used to work, an employee acted out [no booze at the party], and we heard about it for awhile after, from the bosses. She did not work there much longer, and yes, there were other reasons why she did not keep her job.
I do not like workplace parties, either, but I show up, and try to be nice, and thank the bosses for the nice food. I try to hang out with someone I can talk to, but I stear clear of the office troublemakers [even though that is where the fun is!].

I would sit down with him and talk to him about it. Try to make suggestions on things he could do. Sometimes husbands do not know how to act at their wife's Christmas Party. They may not want to cause problems for you so they become hesitant. If you know of anyone at your workplace that has common interests maybe introduce your husband to them. Good Luck. Sometimes a husband just doesn't listen....I have been there.

Some people just don't like those kind of things. The best thing is to respect that and let him be himself and be there to help him smile and love him lots. He should come first at all times.

Alcohol, and perhaps a before social doobie in the car. Works for me. If this does not increase his sociability, try upgrading to cocaine.

felt this way a couple of times but then there turned out to be a couple of people whom I had something in common with and had a great time.

Don't push him. Some of the time it's not natural to walk around stroking everyone. I'm sure he'll be respectful and friendly.

Wine always did the trick for Me.

Also have him hang out by the person you know he has the most in common with. (Prepare that person ahead of time)
