I don't think so because you might accidentally rupture your ear with the safety pin as you're putting it in...

It's not a good idea unless you sterilize the pins. It would be a lot safer if you purchased a pair of earrings that look like safety pins. You can find a pair at Claire's or Hot Topic.

I don't think that would be very sanitary. Most earrings now a days are made with metals and things that won't irritate your ears. Also, the point of a saftey pin is sharp and not blunted like and earring, and might actually scrape or poke inside your earring hole and potentially cause infection. You might stick to earrings or look online for an earring that is shaped like that, I'm sure you will find them!

Not so good - they are usually nickel plated which is very allergenic. If I wanted to wear one I would 1) coat it with clear nail polish 2) cover with a thin coat of bacitracin or other clear ointment 3) wear only for a couple of hours, not more.
Getting a look-alike pair that are made to be earrings (or if you find stainless steel safety pins that are not nickel plated) would be much more ideal.

well the idea is that if you poked yourself with the tip it would hurt and could get infected... no open wound is 'safe'.
perhaps file down the tip so it's not as pointy, and then try it. a metal nail file should do the trick :)
Oh and i forgot but some people are sensitive to nickel and other cheap metals, so you never know how you could react to it, so maybe just don't do it unless you want a possible allergic reaction...

I've wondered the same thing. The answer is no. The pins that are thin enough aren't long enough, and the ones that are long enough aren't thin enough. Also, you could stab yourself in the ear pretty easily with it, it could get caught and ripped out, it could prick you in the head if it comes undone...

We did it in the 80s. I'd just make sure you use a new one not one you dug out of the bottom of your Mom's sewing basket. If you do use an old one rinse it in peroxide first.

probably not a good idea. ur ears could get infected unless u make sure u clean it and if u leave them in long enough ur hole starts to close so it forms a smaller holein ur ear lobe

I don't see why not. I would stick them either in peroxide or rubbing alcohol before you put them in just to make sure they are sterile, even if you take them straight out of a package.
