TAnk comes from the dunk tank. If you lose (the person hits the clanger with the ball) you go into the water tank and lose (by getting wet)

hang is shorter for "hang around" which friends do.

Chill comes from "cool your heels", when you have to wait and relax, but more for those who are really hot to move on and they need to cool down (or chill out)

I think chill is an abb. for the phrase "take a chill pill" as how I originally heard it many many years ago. Hang I guess to "hang around with"

"chill" means to cool down too....
so if someone's angry you might ask them to cool off....
chill could mean relax in that way.

hang could be taken from monkeys maybe. hanging around on trees like idiots. i don't know. that's what first came to my mind.
just hanging around.
