I love the 1930's - 1940's styles...but, the patterns that I have found are not for my measurements...they are...32,36, inch bust.... 32 inch waist....is there a way to buy one of these vintage patterns and enlarge it to make a dress to fit my measurements..

I dont know if you remeber in shop class but the pencil trick if you needed to make something bigger youd take your peice of wood (with the design on it) and lay it on a larger peice of wood hold a pencil about 2 inches out and trace it. with the pencil being out that extra 2 inches it would add that extra 2 inches to your new board and it would have your old design on it Im sure if you apply this method to you clothing patterns it would also work I have a mother that is a little on the huge side and can remember her doing this as well. PS THIS BETTER MAKE YOUR BEST ANSWERS.

Im not talking about doing the whole pattern in this method just the parts that are to small if you need 2" than move your pencil an inch away that way you have an inch on both sides.

If you follow the advice to draw two inches out, your dress pieces won't fit together correctly, the sleeves won't fit in, and the darts won't be the right size or in the right place. You may be a good enough seamstress to work around those problems, but I don't recommend this method.

If you need to enlarge only an inch, you can do that by using a smaller seam allowance on both sides. If you need to enlarge more than that, figure out how many inches larger you need. Divide that by 4. Insert that much space in the middle of the front and back. If you are cutting a piece on the fold, you simply move it out from the fold that much. If you have to add a lot this way, you may have a very large neckline

You divide by 4 because you are adding to left front, right front, left back and right back.

depends on how large you want to enlarge. kinkos can enlarge images. if just about an inch, i would add an inch to pattern before cutting.
