Marcie is the one who calls Peppermint Patty "Sir," and Charles M. Schultz said it has to do with Marcie's being intelligent and naive, and also because she respects Peppermint Patty. Her naivete is the reason for "Sir" instead of a proper feminine address such as "Ma'am."

she reminded her of a drill sargent in boot camp and it brought up horrible memories, like the tauting, cleaning bathrooms, the beatings with soap bars in pillow cases, or was that full metal jacket...... ah hell ....go with that
