it all depends on if you are sleeping in a five star hotel, or an open bus shelter, even a copy of the times fails to get up much warmth.

Winter 2006-07 UK headline: Slightly milder than average overall, colder January
Temperature
Temperatures are expected to be slightly above average over the three month period.
Precipitation
Over the three month period rainfall levels are generally expected to be above average.
December

Temperature: Above average.
Precipitation: Above average.

The first half of the month is expected to bring a lot of unsettled, wet and windy weather to much of the UK. There is a possibility of some particularly stormy weather during the early part of December. Things may well begin to start settling down towards the middle of the month. Temperatures close to or above average at first, but returning to average values later. Some hill snow for Scotland, and an increasing risk of frost later on during this period.
The second half of the month may begin with a spell of quieter and cooler weather as high pressure builds across the UK. At this time of year this means an increased risk of frost, although bright conditions with sunny spells during the day are likely. Later on a return to less settled weather is expected with rain affecting most of the UK again. The less settled weather should often be accompanied by higher temperatures, and southern areas may again be rather mild at times. However, the transition back to milder conditions may lead to the possibility of wintry precipitation for a time, especially over the northern hills.
January

Temperature: Below average.
Precipitation: Above average.

The first half of the month is expected to begin rather unsettled with wet and windy weather along with close to average temperatures. Rainfall levels during the early part of the month may well be quite high across most of the UK. Drier interludes are likely to increase through this period with an increasing risk of frost developing.
The second half of the month may bring a change to much colder, but still rather unsettled conditions, with the possibility of a significant spell of wintry weather. This may create the conditions for some possibly heavy and persistent snowfalls in northern parts of the UK. Southern areas may also have some snow, but with milder air close by there is likely to be an increased chance of rain.

February

Temperature: Slightly above average.
Precipitation: Below average.

The first half of the month is expected to begin with rather cold and dry conditions. Overnight frost is likely to be quite widespread for a time. A change to less settled weather is expected to develop with temperatures returning to average values and outbreaks of rain affecting most of the UK. By the middle of the month dry and rather chilly conditions may return with the risk of frost returning for a time, and the possibility of some wintry showers for a time in the north.
Dry weather is expected to continue for much of the second half of the month. The risk of frost is expected to reduce quickly as temperatures begin to rise significantly. This period may bring very mild conditions to much of the UK.
