I heard a rumor that the power and performance of a decomissioned police car is reduced before it is auctioned off to the public. Is this true or are they just as powerful when they are sold at auction?

Hi there,

The police cars are sold with the same performance abilities as it had when in service as a police car.

Many police cars have been run hard and have been beat up some. A car with a "police package" however is set up with some heavy duty options that regular cars do not have.

I am speaking of Crown Victorias with 4.6L engines. They are pretty gutsy, especially for a heavy car such as the Crown Vic.

If you are interested in a police car, look them over pretty good. Do a bit of reasearch and try to get a car that some upper management type officer used rather than a car used regularly as a daily cruiser. They are usually in pretty good shape.

Good luck

There is no way the police are going to spend several hundred dollars to "detune" a car they are just going to "dump" on some poor chump dumb enough to buy an old police car.

As far as I know, police cars are all chipped but they don't bother to take them out when they sell them. Hope this helps.

Vehicles are sold as is. No high performance removed but most don't have it.
