I have worked at walmart for 5 years and our store is closing the layaway by christmas . I think that it is kinda dumb on walmarts part because the customers are gonna go someplace that they can put stuff in layaway. I know for me when I want to get stuff for my kids at christmas time layaway comes in handy.... one reason... I can pay it off slowly and two... The kids are not searching the house to find what they got for christmas. I have heard a lot of complaints just like that and I think Walmart will eventually see that. Or I hope thay do and decide that it was a mistake and put the layaways back in the stores. I know at our store this friday 12-08-06 is the last day that people are able to pick their layaways up and if they don't the merchandise is put back on the shelf.

Local Walmart just recently discontinued layaway policy. I assume this change is across the entire system.
