Mistletoe is a parasitic plant. Once removed from its host it will decline and die. You can dry it, either in an arrangement (including wreaths) or as a dried plant for future use in decorations
FYI: mistletoe is a sacred Druidic plant.

You can't, but you can keep it fresher by keeping it in a plastic bag that has been misted inside. You can also go ahead and hang it, and mist it lightly every day and that will help it some, but it will eventually dry up--though the green color will stay for some time.
