I'll bet it is worth a lot... never heard of that defect before.

To be a mint error it would have to have been struck with the reverse die not in place. I have never heard of that, at least not these days. Things were not so hot back in the 1700 and 1800's If the reverse die was covered by grease or rag it could happen, but there would be an imprint of something even if it is the thread design of the rag. If it is rough or real buffed up, then some one altered it after it left the mint. Did it with a wire brush or something. There is a person who answers questions in Numismatic News magazine but he will tell you probably the same thing I just did but you can try. Answerman2@aol.com. Please don't put it in plastic. Put it in a paper envelope (they make special ones if you wanna pay for 'em). Keep it about 50 years and give to your grandchild. THEN if might be worth quite a bit of money. Now, probably only about $10.

Hold on to that one. Put it in a protective sleeve or something. Look in the phone book for coin dealers or collectors, someone should be able to tell you something.

Wow, unless someone's sanded it off - sounds really rare and valuable.
