One way to success is to standout and the easiest way is to be educated in a workplace that does not have a high education level.
A fellow student a uni with me was earning twice the other students and the lecturer because he worked in a company that was mainly working class and management had worked their way up the company. He stood out because he had theoretical knowledge that others did not.

A degree where other do not have one or an MBA if others only have an undergraduate degree works.

The interpersonal side is very important as well but you must bring some skills to stand out.

The best way to be successful at anything is to put your whole heart into it. Pay attention to what is going on around you and show interest. Do your homework, don't cut corners or be devious. You know the one you look at in the mirror, do your very best and then you can look yourself in the eye and respect yourself.

school and work seem to be two very different animals...the potential to excel in school is greater than that of most jobs I would say...all you have to do in school is apply yourself and be assertive in clubs, politics etc and you will succeed...on the job site there could be a janitor..and no matter how hard he/she works they will not find their way to the upstairs office....the receptionist in the lobby who just started the job yesterday has a better chance than the janitor who has had a spotless record for 10 years...

Take Polonius' advice:
"Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice"
In other words, be an excellent listener, but be very prudent about what you say and when.
