Well, I have never used a shuffle. The NANO is bigger than the shuffle but it is LIGHT! The music is organized by genra, there is the date/time, you can enter contacts on the new nano, there is an eq,, you can set a volume limit if you have kids,, you have a repeat and shuffle button and there is a search mode. There is a calendar, stop watch, notes, and games. You can also save photos. I am a bit of a technophobe and I LOVE the nano my husband bought for Christmas last year. It took me a month to even open the box but now I use it all the time. I have filled it up with audiobooks and podcasts. I just upgraded to the 8MB nano so I won't have to do it for awhile. If you listen to lots of music or listen to lots of audiobooks, go for the 4MB, you will not regret it! Order/buy a cover with a clip or armband too as it doesn't come with it. I wish I could tell you what brand mine is because it is great. I just don't know what it is. (lost the box) Good luck!

iPod Shuffle -
The good: The competitively priced iPod Shuffle has a dead-simple user interface with satisfying tactile controls, and its integrated belt clip provides a handy way to keep track of the player. The package includes a cute little syncing cradle.
The bad: The iPod Shuffle has no screen, so there's no way to navigate easily among artists, albums, or playlists. The player might be too small for some users, and nonstandard USB syncing takes away from its plug-and-go appeal.
The bottom line: If you like your music playback simple and your device nearly invisible, the second-generation iPod Shuffle will suit you well. But absentminded users should steer clear of this easy-to-misplace player.
iPod Nano -
iPod Nano - The iPod Nano has an awesome, superslim design with a bright, photo-friendly screen. It is easy to operate and works seamlessly with iTunes and the iTunes Music Store, which has the world's largest selection of music.
The Bad: I can't say anything bad about the iPod Nano, it's a very good MP3 player.
The Bottom Line: It rocks.

ipod nano. You can do more with the nano. Only buy the shuffle if your on a tight budget. Buy what you can afford because you might regret it later and find yourself buying it anyways. Why buy two items when you could just buy the product you want the first time.

I prefer using 3rd party mp3 players. Then you aren't forced to use that horrible invasive iTunes. They're typically more versitile, and better prices. (Like mine, which costs less than an ipod nano, is also a voice recorder, camera, movie player, movie RECORDER, portable harddrive, SD card reader, and webcam. Yay for Aiptek! And even better, unlike the iPod which seems to scream out 'mysterious box, do not open' when awhile back, mine got chucked across a room and broke, it was simple to open with a screwdriver and fix.)
