Yes, they're real. Bids can start as low as $.01 but the trick is that the seller can enter that the "reserve" amount has not been met yet. The reserve amount means the lowest amount at which they'll let it be bought for. So, if no one bids on their item past $.01, then they don't have to sell it.

The other thing is that yes, they can sell it for 1 cent, but then some sellers will charge $7 to ship it. That's where alot of them make their money. I've bought stuff off Ebay before where they charged $7 to ship something, and when I get it the postage shows $2.10.

Nope, they're not a scam. Usually they're for relatively lower-priced items, and you'll notice that the shipping costs are usually ~$15 or so. Selling for a low price but recovering the money on the shipping charges allows the seller to have to pay less in eBay fees.

They are real. Sometimes its a taktic to put .01 as a price but the price you buy it form is like 5$ or 10. look at the shipping price also.

Usually when an item on ebay is priced like that the shipping charge is outrageous. Make sure you check it before ordering!

Check to see if there is a Reserve Price and really check to see what the shipping cost is. Sometimes there will be a huge shipping cost that covers the actual cost of the one cent item.

Often the bidding starts that way--but gradually the amounts climb--no it not a scam...it is not going stay that way long.

You have to start it at something in order to post it there for sale. It is just a starting place.

Most of the time, the amounts can start at .01 and go to maybe a $100.00 or more, depending on what is being sold.
