You seem to be a very nice person Since you don't want to break his heart. What a sucky situation to be in RIGHT been there dun it and no matter who tells him you always seem to feel bad in away but I think the best way is always the truth even though it is hard for you. This way I always felt a little bit better about myself by being honest "Say I'm not happy telling you this but I'm not interested I'm sorry"
GOOD LUCK AND I AM SURE YOU WILL BE BREAKING MANY MORE HEARTS
In time I'm sure the right one will come along

It's a part of life and a part of growing. You're just going to have to look into yourself and do the best you can. Be honest, direct and kind, and you should be okay.
There are some very bad answers above. Most people on this board aren't really that qualified to give advice, IMHO.

ITs always better to be honset with him never try and lead him on by flirting just tell him the truth and he'll appreciate the honesty he might act like a complete jerk around you after that cuz hes burned but your better off then being w/ him b/c u feel sorry for him

You can just tell him that you prefer him as a friend. Then let time cool off the relationship before meeting up further

Have a girlfriend tell him that you are not into him that way if you dont feel like letting him no your self.. but the sooner the better..
But make sure you let him no one way or another..

Just tell him you not interested or give him your number and have your brother or friend to answer to act like your boyfriend. He'll get the picture.

this is always a risky situation...id have to say tell him that you value his "relationship" but you don't want to have a real relationship with him at the moment. GOOD LUCK :)

it is best to tell him yourself....
"Hey ___name of person___, I think you're a really good person, but I'm not really into you....i'm sorry, but we could always hang out or just be friends. I'm really sorry! See ya later"
