Numbness anywhere is caused by the same thing... nerve impingement.. something is pressing a nerve in that area.. the usual problem in the wrist is one of the 7 small bones has become malpositioned and is allowing some swelling in the capsule around it. When there is a nerve passing over it, it will be impeded in its ability to pick up sensation.

This is what is taking place in carpal tunnel syndrome.. If you are unable to press that small bone back into its proper position you may need assistance. Easily supplied by your doctor of Chiropractic. Is a very simple and rapid procedure.

Get yourself a new mouse pad that has a place to rest your wrist on. You are damaging your nerves. It could be carpal tunnel since you type all day. Please try that first, because that surgery is hard to recover from and you will have to return to work doing the same type of work and it requires a period of healing. Do you have enough sick time to take off? If so, then do see the doctor to make sure. In the meantime, buy one of those mouse pads. They work really well.

If you are typing a lot, you could have carpal tunnel syndrome. But, you could have arthritis as well. I have arthritis and that is what effects me. I do not have carpal tunnel and I do a lot of typing too.

i work with a lot of computer programmers and usually one in about 10 usually complains about wrist pain and wrist locking. You may want to have someone like a chiropractors or massage therapist take a look at your posture and make suggestions on where to place your keyboard and how to sit. I might make a huge difference. I've heard strength exercises (weight lifting or even just squeezing a rubber ball) might help you too since it will help strengthen your wrists. Or you might look into dictation software if you have to type a lot.

It is probably carpel tunnel. I just had surgery for carpel tunnel. My hands would go numb brushing my hair , blow drying my hair. Driving. You need to get it checked out. I let one of my wrists go to long and even after surgery I will not completely get my feeling back in my thumb. Do it early and you should be fine. Take care.

Probably, get it checked out! It doesn't have to be your fingers, it's actually usually the nerves in the wrist!

My grandmother had the surgery while she was awake!!! Yikes!!!

I don't recommend it, but if it gives you relief, have the surgery (with anesthesia ;})!
