i think id have to say winter. usually in the winter you dont need to spend to much energy to do stuff like you do in warm weather which saves energy for sex(mating). plus the whole fireplace and snow makes it so romantic =P

Human females have menstrual cycles, which means that an individual female is fertile, on average for several days each month. For a sufficient population, this means that some female is always fertile. Therefore, based on basic human biology no clear definition of "mating season" is obvious.
However, in times of severe want, the menstrual cycle shuts down, so one might argue that the mating season for humans is whenever environmental and nutrirional factors are such that normal fertility is present. SInce the advent of agriculture, this has been more or less continuous (except for a few famines here and there), which may help to explain the population explosion.

Mating seasons are timed to provide maximal benefit to the newborn, to ensure that the mother has adequate stores of energy at the time, etc. With respect to other primates, I'd guess that if by some weird quirk of fate we ended up with an estrous cycle, we'd by polyestrous, with the season cycling as quickly as one every few weeks. If not this, I'd calculate back from spring/summer about 9 months, and say sometime in the fall or winter.
As for preference, what we have now is fine with me. :-)

Probably during late summer/early autumn. That way, winter is over and the weather is warming up by the time the baby is born. Fresh food is cheaper and more plentiful during spring, allowing the mother to eat properly and breast feed her baby better. By the time winter comes around again, baby is a bit stronger - little babies can get very sick in winter.
I don't mind the idea of a mating season, provided I didn't have to give up sex in the off season :-)

It's a good thing that humans do not have a mating season. If we did then demand would be too high and supply would not be able to keep up. For example, everyone would run to the stores to buy diapers and formula at the same time, thus there would be shortages.

I would guess that if we had mating seasons it would be around Valentines day (because football season is over)

Winter. Especially where I live it snows so much so you can't go anywhere. There is nothing to do but stay inside and....mate!
