My car is making a high pitched whiny kinda squealing noise! When I left home, it
started this high pitched squeal....then stopped...drove about 60 miles...It sat for about two hours in a parking lot. On the way home, it started that noise
and never stopped...Just as I was turning into the subdivision, my radio quit and
my lights went real dim on my dash...the ABS light came on...pulled in the drive...
turned it off and waited a second, tried to turn it back on and it just clicked...dead
battery...

Any clues, anyone?!

Most likely the belt on your alternator is loose or broken. The alternator charges the battery and if your lights dim or go out its because there isnt enough charge in the battery to keep them working and usually because the alternator is not charging it due to a malfunction. Just look under the hood where all the belts are and see if one is missing or hanging loose or chewed up.

Hard to say exactly what your noise was but most likely has something to do with your charging system. Possibly a loose belt, bad alternator bearing,or other pulley bearings in the alternator drive belt system. The dead battery suggests the alternator was not able to maintain your battery charge or provide the necessary voltages for the rest of your cars electrical components.

Loose accessory belt on your engine. This turns the alternator which keeps the battery charged. If your handy it's a DIY project. You can get a new one at any auto part store. Elsewise any garage can replace it under $30.

A pulley seized up somewhere where the belt routes, in doing so, the belt had broken. Sad to say, you need a new belt and to fix whatever the part is that is seized up. Good luck.

it sounds like the drive belt for your alternator is loose, to the point that it is not charging your battery.
