please don't say 650,000 because that number is BS. Here is why, that number breaks down to 537 a day. People are saying that now has been the most violent time in Iraq, and the most wildest speculations draw that 100 Iraqi civilians are dying per day. Now that does not make sense, does it?

steve j usa, the govt. is not reporting that number, an independent "researcher" is. and what do you mean with that last sentence?

2006-12-02 15:00:25 · update #3

steve j usa, why would the govt speak their mind? just please tell me, how is that number logical when you break it down. and as others have said, doesn't that count dead terrorists also? If so, then I think it is reasonable

There is no accurate count of civilian death tolls in Iraq. Problem is, we don't know who really is a civilian acting out and who is an terrorist. Bottom line, we can only separate those with guns shooting at us and those who are not armed and not confirmed as shooting at us.

There have been deaths of 'unarmed' Iraqi civilians and other civilians (from other countries) but they have been caused in great measure by the terrorist. The way they have died haven't been simple gun shot wounds. We are talking missing heads, bodies in rivers, train tracks, you name it.

So, judging by the news I'd have to say the Iraqi civilians tend to be lost at less than 50 a week, however, if the Civil war grows and these factions continue shelling THEIR OWN PEOPLE (sick) we are going to see a lot more of these 40 in a day deaths.

everybody seems to forget that the insurgents are hiding in with the civilians. Of course the military deaths will be lumped in with the civilian deaths. You cant tell me any number of "civilian deaths" has only civilians and not 1 single combatant. that would be naive if not ludicrous to ignore

I read an article about the civilian death count in the first war and it proved how the number was flawed in that the way they had to estimate it only used the part of the population. I will try to find it.

edit: I sure dont like this line in the subtext of Iraqibodycount.com

It also includes excess civilian deaths caused by criminal action resulting from the breakdown in law and order which followed the coalition invasion

Then why is the government saying around 650,000?
You have just as much proof to say it is not 650,000 as anyone has to say only around 2,900 American soldiers have died so far.

Yes, the government approves the numbers of these researchers. They would speak their mind if they believed it wasn't true.
