Gibson guitars are great for people who play many styles. Gibson has a great sub-brand called Epiphone. They are guitars more in your price range, with great features for the price. Check out these:

Also don't be afraid to purchase a refurbished guitar since this is your first electric!

Hope these are helpful!

As ur playin various styles, its best to go for an all round guitar like the fender strat.
The epiphone les paul is around tht price and sounds amazing for any sort of song. Give it a try :)

Well what kind of music do you like, and what style do you like to play? Have you been playing for a while, or just started? Fender is a standard, trustworthy brand, and with something as cliche as a Fender Strat you can actually use it very well for many styles of music- blues, rock, jazz, even metal (Yngwie did it!)...

Some Fender Stratocasters sell for around that. The Strato's a great guitar and tons of rock stars like to use the stratocaster.

probably one of the most versatile is the fender strats and the gibson( in your case epiphone) les pauls. jackson, esp, bc rich are mainly metal centered, ibanez doesnt realy have a catagory lol but ya fender strats and epi les pauls are good. if you are new to buying guitars, go with one of your guitar playing friends to the guitar center, guitar showcase, etc whatever yo have in town and have them show you around. try many guitars and dont b afraid to ask questions

try checking out music stores that carry new and used instruments. some that don't carry used ones can sometimes tell you about an individual who does have a used one for sale. I've heard that Fender is about the best in electric. hope you find one soon!

Try a Les Paul.. Gibson makes them more expensive....because they have better parts, but If you got an epiphone version, you could pay less...But you'd have to get better tuning pegs and whatnot.
