I think almost 90% American think that stuff made in China are cheap and really bad quality. But I went to China two months ago on my business trip and found out amazingly that all the Chinese use better stuff than us! All the stuff I found in supermarkets and stores are better quality and they were made in China! I don't know why we only have those bad "made in China" things here. Where are all the good ones???

What's your opinion on this?

hey, so I am from US and have lived in China for 15 years, in all 4 corners, in all classes of income neighborhoods, and I am studying business in SH. Let me clear some things up. So the MiC products we get in the US are generally considered bad, and the products here are no different, in fact, I have done research that shows that in the US we actually get the good stuff, but let me tell you why you might feel otherwise, you see in the US, quality is assured, we don't think of returning things to a store or bargaining at the open-style markets, because we generally trust that the sticker tells the truth and the seller is honest or else he/she wouldn't be able to keep their business, due to the fact that laws in the US are enforced.

In China it is a seller's market, even though there are thousands upon thousands of different sellers, after a while of looking you will find that all products are actually made with the same material and by the same model of machines, so even if they try to be different, the products turn out more or less equal to each other, the difference between suppliers is usually in the deals they are willing to make and the consessions they will give to ensure that the quality is kept up to current levels.

Now, to answer the question of how some people buy good MiC in China and bad ones in US: In the US, quality is assured (more or less), and the Chinese products are not supposed to be the best anyway, so why would a place like Walmart care too much about getting the best action-hero toy, when their shopper's would just as easily buy a more expensive toy either MiC or made elsewhere if quality is what they wanted, but will still buy the cheap one from China because of price, thus we get some really aweful stuff in US, low market value for low income buyers, China will meet those demands without scrupples and some of our chains will supply those goods without batting an eye. AND HOW DO YOU GET GOOD MiC IN CHINA? Simple, the Chinese know that the majority of what they make is bad, so they get choosey when it comes to buying their own products, which is one reason why the upper-class in China exclusively buy imports, even if the Levi's Jeans originate in China, then get shipped to US, then get shipped back to the Levi store in SH, they are willing to buy, because at least they have a brand that they can show-off and the quality was checked at least twice by a US brand such as Levi. And the same rule goes for Chinese brands, if it is sent to another country, then back, it is good.

Lastly, on your trips to China, I dare say you probably played the tourist or businessman, which is no issue, but that means that maybe the places you shopped were indeed high-end or at least expensive, even if it didn't seem that way at all. I have found so many tourists, Chinese and non-Chinese alike, thinking that they are off the beaten-track and experiencing the gritty "real" China, when the truth is that they were still in a very expensive tourist trap. So the idea that some of you shopped at a store with nothing but the good stuff without realizing that the store is specializing in the good stuff is not too far-fetched. And let us not forget that most travelers will be going to eastern China or at least a 2nd tier city, in which case the quality is a little more attainable, simply because only with the rich in China does it even begin to resemble a buyer's market.

I agree about things shipped here from China. First of all, why can't the US businesses hire Americans to make the things, given job to us, given consumers better quality things and upping the economy. Second, I know it's cheap for US business to have China make things but the Chinese earn very little money for their work and many are children laborers. And the things are crappy!!! I've been thinking about this for years. Last year I decided not to buy anything that was made in China. I bought some food, kleenex, tiolet paper and nail polish that was from Sweden. After one week I had to buy things and they were made in China. So I don't think we can do anything about it unless all Americans stopp buying China products for one week. Then the economy will see a big drop.

My parents went to China and said the same thing you said, that the Chinese people buy things made in China and are of much better quality. They deserve good quality and so do we. I personally think it should change and give jobs to Americans in America!

yep, I've been there too, like 4 years ago i went, and there stuff is really great quality for cheap. the thoughts on bad Chinese things probably just comes from the connotations people draw from about the Chinese, probably stems from some racial tensions the settlers had about the Chinese and has just drifted down in the form that made in china stuff is bad which really is not true..

I think you need to ask all of the companies that send thier products to be made overseas. The companies have factories in China for mass production., and they pay their chinese employees less than what an American would accept as fair pay (or what is legal in America for that matter). They use cheap materials and cheap labor... so in essence... you get a cheap product as a result. The chinese wouldn't make things like this for themselves because they aren't told by American companies to make them in the most cost-efficient manner.

Bush is a puppet of the real rulers who are behind the scenes. And they are destroying America.
The US dollar is at 83 on the USDX.iT WAS AT 91 .When it falls below 80 you will see a selling off of US currency by countries who have it as a reserve. The dollar is being propped up by the selling of gold reserves which belong to the American people .The federal reserve isnt federal at ll but owned and operated as a private corporation by a cartel of banks. They are printing money that is backed by nothing. The US govt has to buy this money from the Federal reserve and pay interest on it which is accomplished by our taxes.
China has 1 trillion dollars in US money. They will sell off their reserves further devaluing the US dollar.
This is how China will become the economic superpower of the world.

wrong wrong wrong Chinese metalurgy skill is totally deficient, drill bits break, tools go blunt, chair legs crumble : Some things might be ok just don't go buying anything made of metal and expect it to last ... fine if its something you will use once or twice anymore than that and you are just contributing to overloading your rubbish tips with cheap imported ready-made chinese landfill they'd rather you fill up your own back yard than their own. Thats why you get to buy the crap.

My favorite retailer of tools sells almost entirely Chinese imports, and the stuff is fine. Other Chinese products have been entirely satisfactory. I really haven't encountered anything to complain about.
