I hope to hell they do!! People need to support this country. All we have now is a bunch of whining wimp asses. Give me everything but don't expect anything from me, that's the attitude today. The followers of "Allah" are going to kick this country right in the butt, and the wimp asses will just let it happen. We do have some young people with great testicles and they are all wearing uniforms today. God Bless them all.

No, because the draft insulates people who are not forced by circumstance or military ideas of honor and duty to enlist in the military. So, rich and upper middle class people do not want to send their kid to fight in any war, so they would never support bring the draft back. The super rich of course can always get out of anything they do because money buys you almost anything but eternal life and they are working on that.
For ethnic minorities, the military gives them a way to break into the middle class with educational benefits, possible retirement, health care, the sense of belonging in the greater community, but these people are not slow witted, and they do not want to be drafted into an unjust war, or a losing war.
However, the main reason is, in my opinion, that we have had to many young people die in wars of late and the mothers of America do not want to lose their children in war. It is so painful.
So you see, many communities in America do not want the draft reenacted, but America if we keep starting wars because we think we are so right and so tough, we will be forced to reinstate the draft.
One more point, America has a hang-over from the WWII that fooled us into thinking we will always win. But many Empires have come and gone for the same reason that now threatens our way of life. We end up being selfish, greedy and blind to a sense of fairness toward others and some even think god loves us more than others.

Who exactly is they and I sure hope they do. When you turn eighteen, two years in the service of your country should be mandatory, both sexes. What better deal for America and for the vast majority of kids entering the service. Instead of being wild for two years you learn about teamwork, responsibility, respect and a host of other positive things for the rest of your life. It keeps our troops and support personal fresh and well trained. Most young people who go into the service never see combat. I see it as a win, win opportunity, not a curse.

I personally think it is a ploy to scare the crap out of people to gain support for pullout from Iraq. Either that or that Democrat from New York is an idiot. I would not exactly be opposed to the draft. It would stop a lot of gang and teen related violence and crime. It would create a more responsible generation of young adults. Smarter, stronger, healthier. It would, however, be extremely expensive.

The chances of the draft being reinstituted are roughly the same as Al Sharpton being elected Pope.
Even among Dems, the only one who is making noises in that direction is Charlie Rangel, and he's nuts in the first place.

It would make the youth become politically active again. To bad it takes a stinking festering sore of a war to motivate them.

NO WAY. With liberals in control there will never be a draft, and i do not think that the republicans would instate one either.

Not likely.... Only the Democrats have even suggested that it be done. But, other than for political posturing, they should have better sense than to actually bring it up for a vote.

They? - isn't that us?
Me thinks that a draft is totally antithetical to that which we would defend -- our freedoms.
Rangel is a master in search of slaves. He proposes more than a draft of military defense; he wants us wiping butts of the infirmed, emptying bedpans & serving slops to gutter dwellers. He is the epitome of altruism.
