Will anesthesia make my hair fall out? Im getting surgery in 6 weeks. When I was 6 I had a hernia surgery and I had anesthesia and about 2 weeks later all my hair fell out.. was that just because I was young? or will my hair fall out again?

You need to discuss that with the anesthesiologist. You could have had an allergic reaction to a particular type of anesthesia.

I've had quite a few surgeries and my hair has never fallen out. I'm not sure why your hair fell out when you were 6, but perhaps it was caused by the stress on your body.

Talk to your doctor about your concerns. The side effects from anesthesia do not include hair loss (although I suppose it could be an allergic reaction), so I highly doubt your hair will fall out with your next surgery.

Good luck to you.

It sounds like a side effect of the anesthesia. I've seen people come out of anesthesia and do nothing but cry for 3-4 hours. Some people are just loopy, others ache all over, some have funky dreams , some get hives. I hope your hair doesn't fall out.

sometimes anesthesia can cause some hair loss - but it shouldn't be a lot. Just like the hair loss caused during and after pregnancy. It is just based on how your body deals with the medications,

I have never heard of anesthesia making hair fall out before, that is really weird. My gut says no, but if it's happened before, it's possible.

No. Anesthesia does not cause hair to fall out. It never has with me.

Your falling hair was likely due to a shock to your system. You were young then.

I have had many surgeries and my hair never fell out! I don't know. Maybe it is your body's chemistry or it was a fluke. I would tell your DR. and ask the anesthesiologist when you meet him in the hospital. See what they say.

Generally it won't make your hair fall out....but maybe this is how your body reacts to the mecations being used to sedate you...it's hard to predict what will happen to you next time. Talk to your doctor about this one...

Best wishes.
