I have a sound card that has been installed but it is asking for the Windows 98 disc, which I don't have. So I was wondering if it would be safe for my computer to install Windows XP, and not have any problems. Yeah, and like I said in the question my processor is for Wondows 98. So if you could give me accurate advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Honest Answer: Don't know!
There are too many variables unknown, as Computers during 99 to 2001 when '98 stopped selling, are in the bottom bracket of the XP systems.
XP most probably will run, but will it run well is really the question, and with all it's hardware working.
That computer is now over 5 years old, now considered a old PC in today's fast moving market.

Place the cd into the drive and let the screen pop up. There is a section that asks if you want to check compatibility. Run that as check upgrade only. The disc scans your system and checks to make sure you have everything needed to function. (hardware, memory, etc.)

No. A PC that old won't have enough RAM or hard disk space to run XP very well. You really need 256MB and really 512MB to get any performance at all.

P500, 256 megs of RAM too? Those would be my minimums.
And, yes, the rest should go smoothly. Delete the Win9x cab files when you're done.

I wouldn't do it. It will be painfully slow.... because I've done it (Windows 98 to XP)
